Create Google Workspace Account

Creating a Google Workspace account is a step for businesses and individuals who wish to use Google’s suite of productivity and collaboration tools effectively under a custom domain.  Before starting the creation of a Google Workspace account, ensure eligibility and fulfil certain conditions. The process requires that only site owners with Admin permissions can proceed with signing up for Google Workspace. This safeguard ensures proper authorisation and management rights for the account. Users must be aware of domain naming constraints; specifically, the domain used for registration cannot contain special characters such as ü, é, or ñ, nor any non-English alphabet characters. This restriction is important to avoid invalid domain errors during sign-up.

Moreover, before creating the Google Workspace account, the website’s homepage must be publicly accessible and not protected by a password. This requirement ensures that Google’s verification processes, which check domain ownership through publicly accessible internet resources, can be completed. Without this accessibility, the domain verification step might fail, impairing the ability to activate Google Workspace services.

Create a Google Workspace Account/ Before you begin

Consider the following before you create Google Workspace account.

  • Ensure you meet the eligibility requirements.
  • Only site owners and contributors with Admin permissions can sign up for Google Workspace through a Squarespace site.
  • The domain you use can’t include special characters, like ü, é, or ñ.
  • A Google Workspace account cannot be registered with both a Squarespace domain and a Squarespace subdomain at the same time. Only one can be selected. Alternatively,
  • Think about adding a secondary domain or user alias domain.
  • Verify that your homepage is accessible and not restricted by a page password.

Step 1 – Prepare your domain

The procedures you follow to get your domain ready will vary depending on whether you acquired it from Squarespace or another domain host. Note that you can:

  • Use any domain that is linked to your website to register for Google Workspace, whether it is your principal domain or another domain.
  • Verify either domain after signing up for your Google Workspace account.
  • Reset any custom nameservers to the Squarespace defaults.

Step 2 – Register and purchase your account

  • Open the Google Workspace panel. In the Home menu, select Google Workspace if you’re on a parking page.
  • Click Select to select a plan after choosing whether you want to pay monthly or annually. After creating your account, you are unable to change your Google Workspace billing plan.
  • In the Registration page, enter your information in the following fields:

Step 3 – Find your temporary password at your current email address

Look in your inbox to see the email address you used to register for Google Workspace. An email containing your temporary password will be sent. The subject of the email reads, “Welcome to Google Workspace.” If you can’t find the email, look in your spam folder.

Go to the email and select the “Log in” button.

Resend your Google Workspace welcome email

  • If your welcome email isn’t in your inbox or spam folder, you can resend it:
  • Open the Google Workspace panel.
  • Under Users, click … next to the Google Workspace user you created.
  • Click Send invitation or Reset password.

Step 4 – Log in and accept Google’s terms of service

Log in using the temporary password and the new email address you created. If you’re already logged into another Google Workspace or Gmail account, you’ll first choose Add account and then log in.

  • Follow Google’s prompts to create your own password and accept Google Workspace’s Terms of Service.
  • You’ll be taken to your new Google Workspace Admin console to verify your domain.
